About Win Lyovarin

Born in 1956 in Haad Yai, Songkhla, Win Lyovarin holds a bachelor's degree in architecture from Chulalongkorn University and a master's degree in marketing from Thammasat University. His professional journey includes over five years as an architect in Singapore and New York. While in the United States, he pursued further studies at night in computer graphics and filmmaking. Upon returning to Thailand in 1985, he successfully balanced a career in advertising with his writing endeavors. His innovative approach to literature encompasses experimental works alongside various genres, earning him multiple prestigious awards, including two from the Association of Language and Books and three from the Phukhaothai Foundation’s Golden Orchid Award. He was honored with the National Book Development Board Award four times and twice received the Southeast Asian Writers Award (1997/1999). In 2006, he was recognized with the Silpa Bhirasri Award in the field of literary arts and later honored as a National Artist in Literature in 2013. Several of his works have been translated into various languages.

Win Lyovarin is a celebrated Thai writer who has made significant contributions to the landscape of contemporary literature. Born in 1956 in Haad Yai, Thailand, his diverse professional background includes roles as an architect, interior designer, graphic designer, creative director, copywriter, and writer. Renowned for his experimental writing style that uniquely blends graphic design and visual art with traditional narrative forms, he has received numerous accolades across Thailand and Southeast Asia. Key titles include Arpate Kamsual (1994), an experimental short story collection; Democracy, Shaken & Stirred (1997), a novel that explores Thailand’s political history from 1932 to 1992; and Sing Me Chee Wit Tee Riak Wa Khon (1999), another collection of experimental stories. Since 2003, he has devoted himself to writing full-time after retiring from the advertising industry.
